2008 Holiday Lighting Contest

The Holiday Season is a time of giving. Holiday lighting is just one of those many ways of giving to others. When you think about it, one doesn’t see the lights on the outside of their own houses much. About the only time you see your own lights is when you’re backing out of the drive or coming home after dark. The majority of the time, many of our own lights are hidden from our sight by the walls of our homes. While we decorate the inside of our homes for our families and ourselves, we decorate the outsides of our homes for others to enjoy. It’s a gift for the neighbors that live across the street, to the side, or behind us. It’s a gift for those out for a drive, looking for the pretty lights in our neighborhood. If you were one of the lucky ones, you were able to get your lights up when the weather was warm. If not, you braved the freezing cold and wind to create a scene for others to enjoy. Whether it’s colored lights or white lights, one strand or many, it doesn’t matter. The next time, whether you decide to put up Holiday Lights or not, think about all of the people who’s lives both young and old you can brighten with a simple strand of lights.

In 2007, the Capital Improvement Committee announced Crystal Pointe’s first annual Holiday Lighting Contest. The Holiday Lighting Contest is an effort to encourage residents to display Holiday Cheer. In keeping with the season, children of the neighborhood were again asked to cast votes for the four homes in Crystal Pointe that they felt showed the best lighting. This year, children were given hot chocolate, cupcakes and Candy Canes in appreciation for taking the time to vote. Once all of the votes were tallied, the four homes in Crystal Pointe with the highest number of points were declared the winners of this years contest. Each of the top four homes received a cash prize. The Capital Improvement Committee would like to share that some of the 2007 recipients donated part of their winnings back to the neighborhood. Others used their winnings to purchase lighting for the 2008 season.

The following are the winning addresses:
1st. 8357 Bent Oak Circle
2nd. 8364 Bent Oak Circle
3rd. 12542 Tealwood Drive
4th. 8350 Bent Oak Circle

The Capital Improvement Committee thanks all participants for their efforts and hard work in helping make Crystal Pointe a more beautiful place to live.
