Contract Approved to Fix Brick Walls

On November 14th, after many months of drawing up proposals, investigating problems and solutions, contacting landscapers and masons, a contract was awarded to the Neata Construction Company.

One round of bidders made proposals in the $60,000 range during the summer of ‘08. Later proposals, with changes, brought in proposals in the $30,000 range. Three companies submitted bids: Neata, Shackford, Navaiux Brothers.

For unknown reasons Shackford withdrew from the bidding process and the remaining two bidders submitted detailed and revised proposals. They were also interviewed by members of the Capitol Improvement Committee which asked for, among other things, references, samples of work (photos) and other pertinent information. [A list of formal questions can be provided upon request].

In addition to the committee all homeowners were notified by e-mail about the meeting with the bidders and were invited to join in the vetting process.

The CI Committee endorsed the choice of Neata Construction. The Exec Bd then voted (Chris Navaiux abstaining) by secret ballot and the Executive Board chose to go with the Committee recommendation.

Reasons for the choice included a longer and wider range of experience in the construction field, slightly different ways for fixing the problems (cracking mortar, securing bricks at corners), lower price, and much greater experience.

To Summarize:
The contract for the construction work is $29,800,
24 trees being removed is $4,000
