The Capital Improvement Committee recently conducted Crystal Pointe’s second annual Beautification Awards. Recognizing properties that present an outstanding appearance making our community a more beautiful place in which to live.
An independent panel of judges includes a combination of landscape professionals, horticulturists, and real estate professionals. As with last year’s contest, judging criteria was based on aesthetics, seasonal interest, and maintenance:

An independent panel of judges includes a combination of landscape professionals, horticulturists, and real estate professionals. As with last year’s contest, judging criteria was based on aesthetics, seasonal interest, and maintenance:
AESTHETICS
- How effectively does the plant material and landscape planting complement the structural features of the home and surrounding environment?
- Are the Colors (including the house) and textures blended into the settings appropriately?
- Are non-plant material items appropriate?
- Are trashcans, grills, or hot tubs visible from the front view?
SEASONAL INTEREST
- Imaginative use and diversity of plant material to obtain multi-seasonal appeal.
MAINTENANCE
- From the street the house looks attractive and inviting.
- The lawn is cut.
- Weeds are not apparent.
- No visible bare spots from the street.
- In the growing season, the grass had good color.
- Walks and beds are edged.
- Plant material pruned and shaped (formal or natural appearance).
- Hardscaped surfaces (driveways, sidewalks, brick/stone walking paths) are in good condition and appearance.
- Mulch and/or surface treatment of planting beds are in good condition and appearance.
- Painted surfaces (doors, shutters, trim, lights, etc.) are in good condition.
The team of judges reviewed homes in our neighborhood the week of June 23rd. Four homes were chosen to receive the Beatification Award and were presented gift baskets from the Capital Improvement Committee. These baskets contained gift certificates from local merchants as well as gardening related items. Capital Improvement Committee members were not eligible to receive gifts. Please thank the following merchants for their support by patronizing their businesses.
